My name is Ellie and I am setting up this Go Fund Me page on behalf of my partner Olly.
Olly is 22 years old and is currently transitioning to be his true authentic self in the gender that he feels most comfortable in, which is male. Olly has been experiencing gender Dysphoria for a fair amount of time now, which is the constant feeling of not belonging to the gender you were assigned to at birth. As you can imagine, feeling like you don't belong to your own body is a massive struggle that Olly has to deal with. Some days can be worse than others for him for example experiencing low self - esteem and intrusive thoughts, but dysphoria is not something that will just disappear on its own. Since identifying with the pronouns He/Him Olly is learning more about himself and is able to begin to grow into the person he wants to be on both the inside and out. As his partner I want to be able to do all I can to speed this transitioning process up so that Olly can be his own person and can be proud of the journey he's been through.
Going through the process of transitioning genders is not a speedy, cheap or easy process. The waiting lists to be referred to gender identity clinics can be up to 2 or 3 years, this does not include being able to receive any sort of treatment for example, receiving testosterone or chest surgery. Chest surgery through the NHS can be a wait of up to 7 years depending on the process, this is too long for a person to wait to be able to comfortable in their own skin. Some people may even be denied access to a gender specialist by their GP which adds extra stresses to them and will slow down their transition. The waiting times for being able to be referred to gender clinics are slowly getting longer and longer and this is putting so much added stress on Olly and other people knowing that their transition is going to be a very long process. Due to the NHS waiting lists being an un fair amount of time to wait, Olly is hoping to be able to use a private service which will enable him to get the support he needs sooner. Going through private services will save precious time and stress, however is a very expensive process. I am creating this page as a way of spreading awareness of the different struggles transgender people have to go through just to be themselves and as a way of asking for help. Myself and Olly are not able to do this alone and with the help of others I believe that Olly is going to be able to reach all of his goals.
