Support Ollie's family with the financial burden of BMD

Last year, a colleague and a friend, Caitlin received shock news that her 11-year-old son, Oliver has been diagnosed with Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD) at age 10. BMD has no current cure, and treatment involves long term management regimes, and these are proving costly. As you can imagine this has been a massive life change for the family, including multiple ongoing trips to Sydney for specialist appointments, physiotherapy, doctor appointments and alterations to daily life activities, such as acquiring mobility aids. One of which is a wheelchair.

Caitlin is a selfless human being, always offering kindness and support to everyone she meets in her life, and her adaptation to this news has been one of courage and strength, driven by her love and devotion for her family. Drawing attention via a Go Fund Me is something that is not easy for her, but I can see the additional costs are building up and I know there are a community of people who would be delighted to support in some way. Funds received would help the family in many ways such as being able to purchase Ollie a functional wheelchair that he will begin to use more and more over the years, assist with the multiple specialist trips, physiotherapy and exercise aids as well as help Ollie to be able to attend camps with other people navigating muscular dystrophy. A camp specialised for someone with muscular dystrophy does not just include beds, meals and activities; it includes specialists, physiotherapist and medical staff.

I invite you to look at a story that was featured on the front page of The Canberra Times (19 February 2026), written by Melanie Dinjanski, who described Ollie as ‘an all-round legend’ and highlighted Ollie’s love of cricket, which he had to step away from playing. Ollie has plans and hopes in being able to continue to contribute to the cricketing community in other ways, and it is evident that the cricketing community are the beneficiaries.

I include links to there article written in The Canberra Times (subscribers only) and a link to a beautiful and personal interview Ollie's grandfather, Caitlin's dad did, this interview provides a beautiful description of an amazing young man who is quite the inspiration.
