Hello, I’m Sarah and I’m a volunteer at the Ferret Rescue of Maine. Although I live in North Carolina now I still travel to Maine twice a year. I’ve personally known Ollie for a few years now and he’s recently had a series of health issues and health scares.
He had a severe infection in his digestive tract. His blood work was showing multiple elevations in different areas, like his white and red blood cell count and organ function. He was very anemic. The vet had given him 3 different antibiotics and he was also on pain meds. He had received extra fluids for dehydration. At one point he was so lethargic he could barely walk a few steps. The shelter owner, Crystal, was so worried she was going to lose poor Ollie. Thankfully her amazing vet, Dr. Katie at North Yarmouth Veterinary Hospital was able to help save his life.
However this did mean Ollie racked up an expensive bill. Meaning the Ferret Rescue of Maine really needs the help of the ferret community to help raise funds to cover this emergency vet bill cost. Of course even a few dollars help go a long way in situations like this. Even just spreading the word as often as possible can help make a difference.
