Support Olivia's Stroke Recovery Journey
Donation protected
Sunday, June 22nd, my sister Coleen and her husband David took their daughter, Olivia, to the ER. The left side of her face was droopy, her speech slurred, and the left side of her body was weak. The ER ran numerous tests and kept her overnight. Her blood pressure was very high. At one point, BP was 197/157.
Monday, they did an MRI and echocardiogram. They were told she had a small stroke. She had physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy while in the hospital.
Tuesday, she had to stay another night because they had been unable to control her blood pressure. The hospital would give her medicine, and it would lower her BP. Then it kept going back up. She kept having headaches and feeling sick. The three therapists were in and out on Tuesday. Finally, the doctor ordered her a cocktail of drugs for her headache around 6:30 pm. Within minutes, it kicked in, and she was resting.
Wednesday, she was able to go home with four different types of medications, needing home care and will have outpatient therapy. The doctor said she was too young for a stroke and could not say if there would be a repeat, but she is at higher risk now.
Coleen and David thank God first and foremost for taking care of their baby. It could have been worse. They also want to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and staff at WWMC. They thank family and friends for all of the support.
My niece is a single mom to three children, any help for medical expenses and to supplement income while she is recovering would be greatly appreciated.
