OLIVIA NEEDS YOUR HELP
Olivia Scott is a US parafencing (wheelchair fencing) athlete training to make Team USA at the 2028 Paralympics in Los Angeles. She can't get there without your help.
Here's something most people don't know: all aspiring US parafencing athletes are entirely self-funded. No stipends. No federation travel budgets. No sponsorship deals. Every dollar of training, equipment, camps, and international travel comes out of Olivia's pocket — all while she works an hourly full-time job with no paid time off.
Each competition season requires 4–6 national and international events plus training camps just to maintain her ranking and competitive status. A typical international trip can cost $2,000–$5,000 for airfare, lodging, entry fees, equipment & other in-country expenses, not to mention the week or more off work.
Your donation goes directly toward:
- International competition travel and entry fees
- Training camps and coaching/lessons, dues
- Fencing equipment and maintenance
- Adaptive equipment needs
Where Olivia stands now:
In 2025, USA Parafencing selected Olivia to represent the United States at the World Championships in Iksan, South Korea. She also trained with the Japanese national team and competed in an invitational in Tokyo. She has competed in national and World Cup events across the US, UK, Brazil, and Hungary.
Every dollar brings her closer to LA 2028. As the 2026 season gets underway, won't you please consider donating to further her training & competitive opportunities?
Olivia's story:
In 2015, Olivia suffered a severe spinal cord injury while serving with GO Ministries in the Dominican Republic. Through faith, determination, and grueling physical therapy, she learned to walk again over the following year. She still requires a full knee-ankle-foot orthotic due to permanent nerve damage and battles chronic pain daily while, while managing fully controlled epilepsy. None of it has slowed her down.
During recovery, she finished her BA in Linguistics at the University of Illinois, then spent three years teaching English in Taiwan before earning a Master's in Education (TESOL) from the University of Bath, UK. She's fluent in English, Spanish, Korean, and Mandarin Chinese which helps her make new friends all over the world. While in Bath, she was introduced to parafencing & was able to train with the GB Paralympic team & gained a new passion that she wants to pursue at the highest levels. She now lives & trains in Louisville, KY helping to rebuild the world renown fencing program there.
She has already participated in many national & world cup events in the US, UK & most recently in Brazil & Hungary. Here is a recent match in Salt Lake City
