Hello, my name is Olivia, and I am 26 years old. For as long as I can remember, I have lived with severe leg pain, a condition that started when I was just eight years old. After falling ill with intense headaches, my left leg began to ache, followed by my right leg. Despite my mom’s efforts to manage my pain with medication, my condition worsened, and I became unable to move or perform everyday tasks.
My family sought help from a native doctor in Bamenda, (in Cameroon), where I learned to walk again, but not without consequences. Upon returning home, my right leg began to bend inward. My family rushed me to the hospital in Genicom, where I underwent surgery. The procedure was initially successful, but things took a tragic turn when my aunt mistreated me and discarded the special iron shoe that was essential for straightening my leg.
For years, I suffered in silence, unable to get proper care. Eventually, I returned to my mother’s home and began to rebuild my life. However, the pain remained, and in 2021, it intensified. To my shock, I learned that an iron implant had been in my leg for 15 years without my knowledge.
Recently, I had another surgery, thanks to the support of a wonderful woman named Mum Shantal. Unfortunately, the procedure did not go as planned. The surgeon was supposed to straighten my bent leg, but they failed to properly lock the bone in place. As a result, I am now in even more pain, and my condition is worse than before.
I visited another hospital for a second opinion, where a doctor explained that the previous surgery was done incorrectly. I need a complex and crucial operation to correct the mistakes, which involves removing bone from my waist and inserting it into my leg. This is the only option for my body to support my leg properly and alleviate the constant pain.
The cost of this life-changing surgery alone is 700,000fCFA; excluding all associated medical bills pre and post surgery. Unfortunately, I am currently unable to work due to the pain, and I am reaching out to kind-hearted people who may be able to assist me in covering the costs. Your support would mean the world to me, and it would allow me to finally live without the constant agony that has plagued me for nearly my entire life.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Any help you can provide—whether through a donation or by sharing this campaign—will bring me one step closer to regaining my health and my life.
With gratitude,
Olivia
