Hi, my name is Olivia, and I’m 16 years old. I’ve been accepted into CIEE’s Spanish Language and Culture Summer Program in Palma de Mallorca, Spain—an opportunity that feels like a dream come true. I’ve worked hard for this, and I’ve even been awarded a scholarship, but unfortunately, it only covers about 1/5 of the cost.

I already balance school, extracurriculars, and a job, but the full tuition and travel expenses are still beyond what I can afford. Coming from a family where finances have always been tight, studying abroad has never seemed like a real possibility for me—until now.

This program is more than just an academic opportunity; it’s a chance for me to connect with my heritage. My family comes from a Spanish-speaking background, but growing up in Texas, I’ve often felt disconnected from that part of my identity. Immersing myself in the language and culture of Spain would allow me to embrace and understand my roots in a way I never have before.
