Meet Oliver, a 5-year-old Frenchie (and my mom’s best friend in the whole world) who loves soaking up the sunshine, sharing your snacks, living life to the fullest, and is loved not only by his family but by all who have had the pleasure to know him. Oliver suffers from a condition called Caudal Occipital Malformation Syndrome (COMS), a congenital brain disorder common in small-breed dogs where the skull is too small for the brain, pushing the cerebellum out of the skull and causing severe pain. He suffers daily from symptoms such as phantom scratching, head and neck pain, and neurological deficits. While medication has helped to manage his symptoms in the past, his condition has worsened and surgical intervention is his best shot at a better quality of life. With your help, we hope to make this surgery possible so that he can continue to enjoy all that life has to offer.
