Support Oliver's Journey Against Rare Cancer DFSP
Donation protected
Hello everyone. My name is Eileen, grandmother to a wonderful little 2-year-old boy, Oliver. His parents, Jeremy and Iris (my daughter), received the devastating news that Oliver has a very rare cancer called DFSP.
At around 1 year old, a small lump was noticeable on his forehead, but unlike most rambunctious children learning how to walk, this lump did not go away and just continued to grow larger. With growing concern, Oliver's parents sought out specialists to investigate. After multiple doctor appointments and imaging tests over the past year, he underwent surgery to remove what doctors thought was just a cyst. The post-surgical pathology report revealed a parent's worst nightmare, a diagnosis of Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans (DFSP). DFSP is so rare that only 1 in 1 million have it and is even more rare in children, especially considering the location being on his forehead.
Oliver's parents have sought so hard to find the very best treatment options for him. After numerous consultations and 2nd and 3rd opinions, it was found that because of this cancer's rarity, our best option is to go to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. His specialized surgeons will perform surgery to remove the cancer and hopefully achieve clear margins.
Depending on how much skin and tissue is removed, the amount of facial reconstruction needed would be completed during the same surgery. This surgery has a great prognosis for this cancer type. We are hopeful that this surgery will bring us closer to having Oliver become cancer-free.
Our next step is traveling from Florida to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester where Oliver's surgery is scheduled the first week in January 2025. My intention in creating this page for donations is to help his parents with some assistance with travel and out-of-pocket medical expenses for this surgery while they prioritize Oliver's recovery.
Our family sincerely appreciates any thoughts, prayers, shares, or donations that you offer during this time. Thank you!
