My name is Hannah Oliver, and I am the sole owner of Oliver Books located in Prineville, Oregon. I am raising money to help my business thrive.
I opened the store in April 2025, the initial the support was very strong, but it has not reached a sustainable point. The community is small, and while I am hopeful that I will grow, it will take time. I have robust customer support from my regulars, and I also have 5-star reviews across all platforms. But, even with all the great business I do, it has not been enough.
I am not at risk of going out of business! But, I would be lying if I said business was easy. When you open a business, you hope for the best and hope that you will be able to pay yourself. Unfortunately, I have not been able to pay myself, and I have been paying all my bills with no money left over at the end of the month. I get asked a lot if I am hiring, and while I would LOVE to add someone to the team, it is impossible at this point.
Per the recommendation of another bookstore, they encouraged me to rally the community's support so that I can get ahead of my bills and continue to grow my business.
Every dollar I make in profit, I have been reinvesting into the business. This business is very important to me, and I want the community to have access to books! I have been trying to be creative with bringing in new customers, but there is only so much I can do!
I put all my eggs in this basket to open this store, and these eggs are not producing enough to maintain the business. I buy all inventory with cash flow, so it can be challenging to prioritize if I should buy more books or pay my internet.
With your support, I will pay off a $10,000 loan that was given to me by another bookstore owner who believed in my vision.
I will use another $10,000 as a nest egg to protect my business from failing.
And the last $10,000 will be used to pay off half a personal loan I took out for the business.
I believe transparency is key, and while it may be taboo to be so open about business finances, I feel it is better to ask for help than to wait until the last minute when you are on the brink of bankruptcy.
I know that Prineville wants this business to succeed, and I want this business to succeed! But, the only way that is possible is to get ahead of this rough patch so that I can continue to be around for years to come! I have every intention of sticking around for years and years, but I need help to get there! Without debt looming over my head, I can continue to expand and offer more to the community.
Have a question? Please feel free to ask!
Thank you for considering helping me!
