Olay Ratana is a dedicated local farmer who has spent the last 3-4 years growing beautiful flowers for lei, as well as saluyot (jute leaves), okra, and bittermelon. His farm is not just his livelihood—it’s his passion and his main source of income. Recently, Olay’s life was turned upside down by the devastating Kona Low Storm. The storm brought heavy rains and flooding, making it impossible for Olay to reach or work on his land. The mud is so deep that he can’t even get back to his house easily, and his car had to be left on the street.
The floodwaters didn’t just stop at the farm—they entered Olay’s home, soaking everything on the floor. Cabinets, kitchen supplies, and sleeping essentials were all damaged by the water. Now, Olay returns to his house to sleep, but it’s a struggle with the smell, mold, and the overwhelming mess left behind. The storm has taken away both his ability to earn a living and the comfort of his home, leaving him in urgent need of support.
Your help will provide immediate relief for Olay as he works to recover from this disaster. Mahalo for your support—any cent matters, and every bit of kindness will help Olay get back on his feet.
This GoFundMe was created by the volunteers from Help Maui Rise and will directly benefit Olay Ratana.
