This page is being ran by the team at The Gym on behalf of our friend and colleague Olando York. Us along with several other of his close friends are helping oversee his care during this critical time.

Olando has been suffering with chronic ear infections for quite some time, unable to get relief despite numerous attempts to treat it.

On Friday, August 15th he was admitted to the ICU, as the infection had spread to his skull and triggered a severe case of Meningitis. He was immediately sedated and intubated to prepare for a life saving surgery, which will clear out several abscesses on his skull.

We expect this critical surgery to take place August 24th-August 26th time frame.

Recovery and rehab are essential, and will be a minimum of 12 weeks post op assuming no further complications arise. The road to recovery will be long and physically and financially taxing, keeping him out of work for some time. While we remain cautiously hopeful and optimistic, it is clear that he will need as much help as possible in many facets.

To know Olando is to love him. His work is his passion, and his clients are truly like family to him. He’s the kind of person who remembers every detail about your life, checks in when you’re struggling, and offers extra time for free just to make sure you leave feeling better than when you walked in. He’s played an instrumental role in many of our lives and has built a reputation for kindness, skill, professionalism, and heart that cannot be overstated.

Olando’s path ahead will be long, challenging, and expensive. As a small business owner in a physically demanding field, this kind of health crisis is both financially and emotionally devastating.

UPDATES:

Sunday, September 14- Olando goes home tomorrow ! He will have speech and occupational therapists coming to his home, as well as friends taking care of him day to day. His progress the last few days has been huge. We're hopeful being back in his space with his dogs will be therapeutic and continue his healing.

Tuesday, September 9th- Today he is in a regular room again. He is being monitored after a seizure he had. He's relearning basic motor skills like walking and brushing his teeth but memory is improving little by little . Having visitors makes his day!

Saturday, September 6th- O was briefly moved to the cardiac unit due to a minor arrhythmia event he had overnight. They are monitoring. He is waiting for a spot to open up at an outpatient clinic in the meantime so he can be transferred there.

Saturday,August 30-He has moved out of the ICU and to a regular room. He's beginning to turn on his phone but not able to fully use it. His memory is improving.

Wednesday August 27- Remaining optimistic..O Is groggy and coming out of sedation. Able to express a few words. He is very tired and still weak from being intubated. Medical team would like to move him to an outpatient rehab facility sooner than later. He is most concerned about his dogs and getting back to work. We assured him everything is under control and to just rest and heal.

Monday August 25- Breathing tubes came out, Olando is waking up and saying words.

Saturday August 23- O was able to get his surgery to drain abcesses that had formed on his temporal lobes. Everything went well and he is stable. They would like to extubate him sooner than planned. Not sure when yet

Thu August 21- O remains sedated and awaiting surgery. He continues to be stable with no events overnight.
