We Need Your Assistance to Help Ohmar Recover: A Journey Back to Himself:

Dr. Ohmar Land needs your support. Please consider donating to his medical needs and sharing his story. With your financial help and continued prayers, he can return to being the talented and dynamic Ohmar we all know and love.

With a dazzling smile and a picture of perfect health, Ohmar Land began a thrilling new chapter on March 11th, 2024, as the Chief Development Officer for the new International African American Museum in Charleston, South Carolina. In transition for his new dream job, Ohmar settled into a temporary hotel in Charleston while the purchase of his new home was finalized.

One week later, he awoke with the worst headache of his life. As he went out to walk his beloved dog, PB, aka Pretty Boy, a Jack Russell terrier, Ohmar felt increasingly unwell. Confiding in the front desk representative, another Ohmar by chance, Ohmar appeared stricken and said, "I don't feel good.” Thankfully, his comments didn't go unnoticed. "Should I call the medics?" the kind stranger inquired and this surreal journey began.

Ohmar made it to the hospital conscious, describing his symptoms to medical staff. As the ER doctor began his examination, the severity of his condition forced doctors to rush him into emergency surgery that Monday morning. When the shocking news reached his family in Charlotte, they dropped everything and raced to Charleston and have been by his side ever since.

Ohmar's condition is a rare AVM, arteriovenous malformation, in his cerebellum. About one in one hundred-thousand people a year are diagnosed with AVM which is usually not detected before rupture. Surgery to repair the AVM to stop bleeding in his brain and to create space for swelling was critical. Heavily sedated for weeks, the initial rest for the brain caused miraculous healing, a testament to his physical stamina and health.

But Ohmar is far from healed. He has transitioned to Shepherd Center, a renowned rehabilitative facility in Atlanta, Georgia, specializing in brain and spinal cord injuries. Here, with intensive therapy, he'll begin the long climb back to regaining his independence.

This journey requires immense financial support. Medical bills are mounting.Every dollar raised goes towards easing this burden. It allows his family to focus 100% on Ohmar's well-being and gives Ohmar access to the life-giving therapies at Shepherd Center.

Please consider a gift large or small, to Ohmar’s recovery. The funds will be managed by his licensed financial brokerage and will be strictly used for Ohmar’s medical bills, secondary support for his immediate family as they will play a major role in Ohmar’s recovery and in a minor way, to the care of PB.

The family is grateful to the dedicated nurses and doctors at Trident Medical Center that have saved his life, Shepherd Center for revitalizing his hope, and for the IAAM museum and their unwavering support and for all the prayers and cards from friends and family. A special thank you to the special angels who are caring for PB.

Together, let's bridge the gap and help bring Ohmar to a full recovery.
