Support Officer Maria Sierra
On August 21, 2025, while attending a training at the Police Department, Officer Maria Sierra suddenly suffered a brain aneurysm. Thanks to the swift action of her colleagues, CPR was immediately administered, and Maria was transported to a nearby hospital. She was later transferred to a trauma center in Sacramento, where she underwent a successful emergency surgery that saved her life.
Now begins the long and challenging road to recovery.
Unfortunately, Maria’s medical emergency is still under review to determine whether it is a work-related injury. As a result, her family is now facing significant and unexpected financial burdens during a time when all their focus should be on Maria’s healing. We as the Woodland Police Department are setting up this GoFundMe to help ease that burden and provide Maria and her family with the support they need during this incredibly difficult time.
Maria’s commitment to public service began early. At just 17 years old, she joined the Marysville Police Department as an Explorer, where she launched an outreach program called Pizza & Hoops. By 18, she became both a Community Services Officer and a Dispatcher. At 23, she began her career with the Woodland Police Department as a Reserve Officer and was soon hired full-time.
During her time with the Woodland Police Department, Maria has served in the Patrol Bureau and currently holds the position of School Resource Officer at WJUSD schools. Her passion for helping others extends far beyond her primary duties—she has taken on numerous auxiliary roles, including:
• Crisis Negotiator
• Explorer Advisor
• Youth Academy Director
• G.R.E.A.T. Instructor
• UNIDOS Member
• Police Activities League Volunteer
• Recruitment Team Member
Maria is also a devoted wife to Agustin Sierra and the loving mother of a 20-month-old daughter. Her family means everything to her. She spends her time outside of work surrounded by loved ones—her husband, daughter, mother, sisters, nieces, nephews and extended family. Even in her free time, Maria finds ways to give back to the community, especially through programs that support local youth.
Maria is not just a public servant—she’s a daughter of this community. She grew up here, serves here, and continues to make it her home.
Please consider donating to support Maria and her family. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help with medical bills, recovery costs, and the day-to-day needs that come with this sudden and life-altering event.
Thank you for your love, support, and generosity.
