Support Officer Jack Murray's Battle with Thyroid Cancer

Hello everyone,

We are raising money to assist Jack Murray as he battles thyroid cancer. Jack is a modest man and would never ask for help, but many of his friends and colleagues have reached out to family asking for a way to contribute financially during this difficult time.

Many of you know him as Officer Jack, as he is a retired Philadelphia K-9 officer and presently employed as armed security at Carolina Forest Elementary School in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Jack recently has been diagnosed with Stage 3 thyroid cancer, and because the strain is an aggressive papillary carcinoma, he had to undergo immediate surgery. He was admitted to MUSC on October 3, where surgeons did their best to carefully remove the mass, which had adjoined to the walls of the trachea and esophagus.

Unfortunately, the nerve to his vocal cord was cancerous and had to be removed, so he has permanently lost significant quality of his voice.

Jack also has to undergo radiation therapy in the upcoming weeks, and we do not yet have an estimated date for when he will be able to return to work.

Jack is no stranger to battling cancer, as it caused him to be a widower and single father of 4 minor children when he lost his wife, Mary Ellen, to cancer in 2001.

Jack is now a grandfather to Grace (age 7). He is also a son, brother, uncle, neighbor, coworker, and friend to many between the two cities he calls home - Myrtle Beach & Philadelphia.
