Support Officer Haney's Recovery and Family

Officer Matthew Haney and his partner responded to a 911 call of a vehicle prowl in the their beat. Officer Haney and his partner Officer Zane Coolidge confronted the suspect who fled on foot. Officers gave foot chase to protect the community, the suspect waited and ambushed the officers. Officer Coolidge was shot by the suspect, and tragically died. Officer Haney was shot in the chest as he returned fire and rendered aid to Officer Coolidge.

Officer Haney is preparing to lay this partner to rest as he recovers from the gun shot wound he sustained during the gun fight.

Officer Matthew Haney, who was shot that night continues to recover

at home with a bullet that remains lodged in his chest. He faces a long recovery not just physically but mentally as well.

Officer Haney has two-years on the Phoenix Police Department. Officer Haney is a Field Training Officer in the Mountain View Precinct. He is a lateral hire after spending seven years as an officer with a police department in northern California.
