This Go Fund Me is for Officer Chris Tolley. Chris is a police officer in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. On April 29th, 2024, he responded to the US Marshall task force that was ambushed while serving a warrant on a wanted subject.
Prior to Chris arriving on scene, three members of the task force had already been struck by gun fire. Their locations had been advised by other officers on scene. The suspect was still shooting at police and task force member as Chris arrived.
Without any hesitation, Chris and a small group of officers went directly to the wounded officers. While conducting the evacuation, he and three additional officers were struck by gunfire. Chris and his team were evacuated by additional officers.
Chris spent the next year and a half recovering from his injuries and 4 surgeries. He is now back to full duty with his agency.
Chris did not know the members of the task force. However, he did know that there was still an active and dangerous threat. He put the lives of strangers before himself. Without hesitation, he and his team formed a plan and moved to try and save those that were injured. That is the type of person, and officer, Chris is.
This Go Gund Me is to help Chris accomplish his goal of becoming one of his agencies helicopter pilots. To do so, he must pay for his own flight training. The estimated total personal cost comes to roughly $15,000. Please think to help Chris accomplish this personal and professional goal with a donation of any amount, or by sharing his story.
About Chris, he was born and raised in Charlotte. He has two boys, one currently in Marine Corps boot camp. He has been a police officer for 20 years, with 9 years on the SWAT Team. Personally, I worked with Chris at his agency for 12 years. He had a good few years on when I came in as a rookie. From day one he was just a good guy and a solid officer. He treats everyone with respect and is there to work. He is also happy to joke around on the shift as well. When it is time to work, or something was going on, Chris is always there to help. No ego or attitude. He's the type of guy that when stuff is hitting the fan, you are glad that he is around.
I would like to mention that Chris did not ask for this. He was just going to work some over time and pay for it himself; that's the type of guy he is. When he told me about paying for training to use for work, out of his own pocket, I didn't agree with that. So, after consulting some people and with his consent, I thought this would be a great option to help my friend.
Thank you.
