Hi!! My name is Aicha and our beloved pup’s name is Odin. We adopted Odin back in 2021 and he has been, until the past couple of weeks, a VERY healthy, high-energy dog and he completely changed my life for the best! Odin is a 6ish-year-old Siberian Husky with the most vibrant personality I’ve ever seen (I’m also a pet care provider!).
In the past couple of weeks, Odin started feeling ill and showing very unfamiliar illness symptoms. We took him to the vet ER and they suggested getting blood work done. Odin was just getting low energy at first, but that quickly escalated to a bizarre head shyness and lethargy. Then, this past Sunday, his beautiful eyes became SUPER dilated and quite scary!! The ER staff didn’t find anything abnormal in his blood work, and the only suspicious thing in addition to the symptoms I’ve listed was a dangerous hypertension of 240/110 if I remember the reading right.
A couple thousand dollars later, we took him to UC Davis for further imaging and testing (estimate attached). I stayed with my pup at the ER all night and then at UC Davis until the doctors told me that they have to hospitalize him and I can’t stay with him. Now I’ve learned that his issue might be neurological and much more different and scary than what the ER doctors thought. The estimate for his care is a staggering $8900 as he needs a brain MRI and possible treatment afterwards. We are pouring our hearts and every dollar we could towards his care (unfortunately, he doesn’t have insurance; we should have thought about it, I know!), but the final cost is still unknown to us and I’m afraid it might get to a point where we cannot afford it anymore. If you can donate anything, anything at all! That would mean so much!! Odin is my world♥️
