Support Odin's Life-Saving Surgery

If you don’t know me already, my name is Kara Daniel. If you do know me, you know that I have a precious Great Dane-Doberman mix named Odin. Everyone who has met Odin would proudly say he’s the smartest and sweetest dog on the planet; the textbook definition of a gentle giant.

We recently found a tumor in Odin’s mouth. Not only has this tumor been taken out once and has grown back, but the infected cells have also spread into his jawbone. The growth has almost quadrupled in size in the past month and as of right now, it is almost positively cancerous. To solve this, we would either have to replace half of his jaw, blast him with repeated radiation, or both. Surgery to solve this problem and expand his lifespan would cost thousands of dollars. The problem lies in the fact that my family cannot supply that type of money all at once while I’m in college.

At the moment, my mom stays home full-time to take care of him, and I can tell that the pressure of this is taking a toll on my parents' relationship. I know this is graphic, but they spend their days and nights cleaning up blood dripping from my dog's mouth. It is restricting my parents from doing almost anything outside of the house, and when I sat down with my mom the other day, she told me that she spends her nights crying on the couch next to him. I’ve never been so affected by my mom’s words. Every dog that my family has owned has passed away from cancer, and I know that if it happened one more time, my mom would be destroyed.

Although Odin is technically a senior dog, he has so much life left in him and the second we brought him home I knew he had a long life ahead of him. I think if I lost him prematurely and was 200 miles away at college when he passed, I would never recover. We adopted him in the height of Covid, and he was genuinely my only friend for over a year. He remains to be my best friend to this day.

I’ve never been one to reach out for financial support, but Odin means more to me than anyone or anything on this planet. He is genuinely the light of my family’s life. Anything, whether a dollar or a share, would help my family tremendously in this time of need and fear of another loss.
