POST SURGERY UPDATE (8/30): Hi everyone, thank you so much for your donations! Odie's surgery was a success and he had recovered nicely.
The bad news is that the tumor was a sarcoma - Odie does have cancer. We've discussed the best steps forward.
He has two paths:
1) To amputate his hind leg to prevent further spread of the cancer to his lymph nodes or other areas to his body. This costs $1,100 and will need to be performed ASAP.
2) To eradicate the cancer through chemo. This costs ~$7,000.
Although my family and I would love for him to keep his leg, we cannot afford to pay $7,000 for chemo and future vet visits :( So for everyone who made donations towards his surgery, thank you so much, you have helped more than you know even though the fight is not over.
For everyone willing to continue to help Odie fight cancer, feel free to donate to his GoFundMe here. Every donation truly helps <3!!!
ORIGINAL POST:
Hi everyone, this is my cat, Odie. He is 4 and a half years old and loves cuddles and birdwatching. He’s a little shy, but once he warms up to you, he’s stuck to your side like glue. My family and I adopted him and his sister (Edie) in 2020 and have loved spending every minute with them.
Over this past year, my mom and I discovered a small lump on his hind leg. Although Odie has had an UTI in the past, he’s never had a lump or skin issues.
Originally, the vet said it may be nothing to worry about and Odie was not showing any symptoms that he was in pain or feeling ill. However, the tumor has continued to grow to a concerning size. In the most recent months, it’s grown by 2 centimeters and we decided he needed to visit the vet again.
This past Wednesday, our vet has decided that he will need surgery ASAP to remove the skin tumor as it might be cancerous. The total cost for the surgery and the pain medication post procedure is costly - around $1,500 to be specific. His surgery will be August 5th and unfortunately we will not know if it is cancerous until after they send the tumor to the lab to get tested.
I am a student in college and my mom is a single mother also supporting me through my higher education. If anyone can spare $1 to contribute to Odie’s surgery, that would mean the world to my family, Edie, and I.
It’s been painful to process this and even more so, to research what Odie might have. Additionally, he is still so young to have such issues. Once again, any contribution towards his medical care and bills would be appreciated a million times over.
