My sister Odalis will undergo her second amputation of her leg this Thursday, August 21st. We are hopeful it goes well, she has battled type 1 diabetes since she was 10 years old, after years of complications this is where we are now, at the hardest part of our lives.

Odalis has lost one eye already. She lost her left leg above the knee last year, and tomorrow doctors will remove her right leg below the knee. She has previously been resuscitated twice; she has now made the tough decision to sign a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order. She does not want to be resuscitated anymore to just continue suffering.

She is tired from all the trips to the hospital, surgery, dialysis, and setbacks. She's been amazingly brave all along. Odalis has also talked to us about entering hospice care. This is as depressing as it looks, and we respect her wishes.

Odalis is more than my sister, she's been my best friend, my rock, and my greatest teacher in resilience. We’ve been through everything together, and now, we’re facing one of the most painful experiences of our lives.

One of her final wishes is to be returning to Mexico, to be laid to rest near our loved ones, where my grandmother is waiting for her.

If you can donate or help us in some way, it would be a dream realized to our family. The past five years have been hard, and this situation developed so quickly, we are going to try to honor Odalis's dreams and take care of her for the remaining of time she has with us.

Mi hermana Odalis se someterá a su segunda amputación de la pierna este jueves 21 de agosto. Esperamos que todo salga bien, ella ha luchado contra la diabetes tipo 1 desde que tenía 10 años, después de años de complicaciones enfentamos la etapa más difícil de nuestras vidas.

Odalis ya ha perdido un ojo. Perdió su pierna izquierda por encima de la rodilla el año pasado, y mañana los médicos le quitarán la pierna derecha por debajo de la rodilla. Anteriormente ha sido resucitada dos veces; ahora ha tomado la difícil decisión de firmar una orden de no resucitar .No quiere ser resucitada más para continuar sufriendo.

Está cansada de todos los viajes al hospital, cirugía, diálisis y contratiempos. Ha sido increíblemente valiente todo el tiempo. Odalis también nos ha hablado sobre entrar en cuidados paliativos, y respetamos sus decision.

Odalis es más que mi hermana, ha sido mi mejor amiga, mi apoyo y me ha ensenado el recisitir ante la advesisad. Hemos pasado por todo juntos, y ahora, estamos enfrentando una de las experiencias más dolorosas de nuestras vidas.

Uno de sus últimos deseos es regresar a México, ser enterrada cerca de nuestros seres queridos, donde mi abuela la está esperando.
