Hello friends, I am here because well as it turns out in the span of a three weeks, we find out our fur baby has cancer, and it’s not long till his time will come to an end. He is a 3 yr old golden retriever, sweet and fun boy! Raised with 3 cats, he can act like one too.
It’s not surprising to me that he has cancer because his breed is prone to certain diseases including types of cancer, in this case lymphoma. However we did not expect this at such a young age.
His spleen is enlarged, abnormal, and all lab results have diagnosed it lymphoma.
It’s a lot to take in. We were running together up until end of May and if it wasn’t for running I wouldn’t have noticed the change in his behavior and most certainly, condition. He is lethargic, not eating, wants to play ball, but overall I know he is sad and aware he is not okay. We had a trip to Banfield, the ER, and now, Oncology.
Best option scenario to his prognosis: we fall in debt $12K, we get him for maybe 2 more years. Worst option, he has a few weeks (we put him down). Everything in between still falls within $5,000-9,000, aside what we’ve already spent (3,000).
I have a 4 and 6 yr old who have grown up with Obi for the last 3 and 1/2 yrs— since he was 6weeks. This is hard for us, but on top of it being emotionally wrecking, it’s costly, and that is the toughest thing to overcome: we don’t have the funds to help our baby. Life isn’t easy for anybody, some worse than others. We aren’t living anymore, we are surviving. Surviving every curve ball. I don’t like the idea of asking for someone else’s money, but a kind and heartfelt donation would help alleviate some of the weight.. this is so unfair to us.
3 years with our Obi wan kenobi was not enough, never would we have expected to have to part with him so soon. We expected him to grow up with our kids. It’s so painful. But we continue on to the next step and at the end of the day it’s about the quality of his life. We love you, Obi!
thank you to anyone and everyone for taking the time to read and help, sharing is also helping and it’s greatly appreciated.
Dogs are amazing. They hold a huge part of our hearts. They teach us so much, and I pray all dogs have a chance at living a long, healthy life.
