Obie Weathers has been incarcerated on Texas's death row since his youth. Confined to a solitary cell scarcely larger than a parking space, with the constant presence of the death penalty, every day is a struggle for survival. Yet despite this, Obie continues to create, writing and making art, as a a way to preserve his spirit, dignity, and humanity.
Limits of Incarceration:
Obie lives with minimal human contact, almost no privacy, and no access to paid work, education, or meaningful activities. Daily life is strictly regulated, and the isolation, constant threat of execution, and lack of control over basic needs impose extreme physical and psychological strain.
Life in prison provides almost nothing to meet his basic needs. The food supplied is insufficient to maintain his health, and Obie must purchase additional items through the commissary at high cost. He also requires proper shoes, hygiene products, and access to medical care—essentials for maintaining strength, health, and creative capacity. Funding must come from family and friends, which is why we are launching this fundraiser.
Our goal is to raise €1,500 to cover Obie’s essential needs for this quarter, helping him maintain health, dignity, and the ability to continue creating. Funds will be used for:
Medical care and treatment
Shoes and essential items
Commissary (food, hygiene, small necessities)
Care packages for this quarter
Correspondence materials, including stamps
Every contribution directly supports Obie’s well-being and his ability to continue creating, even under the most challenging circumstances.
As a token of gratitude:
Every donor will receive a printed postcard featuring Obie’s artwork
A paper crane handcrafted by Obie
A personal thank-you note acknowledging the impact of your support
I am assisting Obie as much as I can, and I humbly ask for your support. I invite you to join me in helping him meet his essential needs, continue his art and writing, and preserve the dignity and hope he deserves.
Thank you sincerely for your support.
Francesca
