Hi there, my name is Holly and I am creating this fundraiser with the hope that you will help Oakleigh’s family with the ongoing costs of her medical care.

This amazing, sweet, and resilient girl was saved by the Newfoundland Club of New England Rescue and Referral in May of 2022.

Oakleigh had 2 torn CCLs, which is equivalent to human ACLs, on her back legs and also a meniscus tear on her right. She was completely immobile, in pain, and dragging her back legs on the ground. It was a very sad sight to see.

NCNE quickly learned that this 2-year-old Landseer Newfoundland was indeed a very special girl. Her will to get up on those back legs and walk again was immeasurable. They accepted her into their rescue, and she was placed in our home under foster care. Her veterinary team was confident that Oak was a prime candidate for this type of surgery, and her prognosis was excellent. This extraordinary organization paid for her surgeries and aftercare, which included water and physical therapy.

The surgeries were a complete success! She was mobile again and pain-free. Oakleigh was adopted on October 20, 2022 (as I write this on her Gotcha Day), when she found her forever home with Randy and Krista. They have been the best dog parents a dog can ask for. They continued with her therapy, including daily walks as well as swimming, which is her favorite thing to do.

Now let’s fast forward 2 years to September of 2024. Oakleigh’s left leg became infected, and her veterinary team came to the conclusion that all of the hardware that was surrounding her left knee had to be removed. This is something that doesn’t occur often, but it does, and sadly she had to undergo yet another surgery.

And that brings us to the reason for this fundraiser. Randy is active duty in the Navy, and Krista is currently a stay-at-home mom and NCNERR volunteer who has donated countless hours to rescue. Now it is her dog that needs help. They are a young couple that have been married for just a couple of years and beginning their new life together. Oakleigh’s exams, scans, surgery, and medications have put them well over $5000.00 in debt. In addition, the infection has resurfaced since Oakleigh’s surgery, so there were more vet visits, and she is currently undergoing injections of antibiotics, which have also been costly.

To know Oakleigh is to love Oakleigh. This girl is a fighter. She never wavered from her will to live, walk, and be the happy-go-lucky girl who loves pup cups. I hope that you will find it in your heart to donate. We have set a goal of $4500.00 which will help out immensely. We are hoping that once her infection clears, all of this will be behind her, and she will be back to living the wonderful life that Randy and Krista have given her.

As I write this, I am filled with emotions thinking about Oakleigh's journey. From being a rescue to finding her forever home, and now facing this new challenge, she has shown us all what it means to be resilient. Her family has been by her side every step of the way, and it's our turn, those of us in the Newfoundland community and beyond, to show them that we care and they are not alone. It is my hope that we will come together to help Oakleigh get the ongoing medical attention she needs and deserves. No amount is too small, and every penny will go directly to her accrued medical costs as well as any that may be incurred while she is in recovery. If we can gather 200 caring people that are able to donate $20.00, we have reached our goal.
