My name is Christopher Evans, and I’m an independent filmmaker from Oakland, California. I’m raising funds to help complete my newest short film, My Brother’s Keeper, cover final production expenses, and host a proper premiere to celebrate the incredible team that helped bring this project to life.
This is my second short film, but it’s the most ambitious project I’ve ever taken on. What makes this production special is the people behind it. Every actor, camera operator, producer, and crew member involved in this film is working purely out of passion. No one is being paid. They showed up because they believe in storytelling, they believe in the vision for this film, and they believe in the potential for this project to grow into something much bigger.
I grew up in Oakland with very limited resources. As a kid, I was extremely self-conscious and struggled with social anxiety. The idea that I would one day lead a group of people, direct actors, and create films for audiences once felt impossible to me. But those struggles shaped my perspective and pushed me to find my voice through storytelling.
Filmmaking became the space where I could transform those experiences into something meaningful—stories that have depth, emotion, and authenticity. Stories that entertain, but also make people think and feel something real.
Oakland has produced some incredible storytellers, including Oscar-winning filmmaker Ryan Coogler, whose journey continues to inspire artists from our city. Seeing that kind of impact showed me that powerful stories can come from our communities too. My goal is to add to that legacy by telling stories that reflect the complexity, loyalty, and choices people face in real life.
My Brother’s Keeper touches on those themes—brotherhood, responsibility, and the moments that define who we become.
Your support will help cover remaining production costs and allow us to premiere the film the way it deserves to be seen—on a theater screen at the New Parkway Theatre in Oakland. It will also allow me to give something back to the cast and crew who gave their time and talent to make this project possible.
Independent filmmaking is never easy, but it’s driven by belief—belief in the story, belief in the team, and belief that the work can reach people.
If you believe in supporting independent creators, authentic storytelling, and dreams built from the ground up, I would be deeply grateful for your support.
Every donation helps move this project one step closer to the screen.
Thank you for believing in the vision.
