We are nurses in the Interventional Cardiology Stepdown Unit at New York Presbyterian Columbia Hospital.

We care for patients recovering from heart attacks, patients before and after cardiac procedures like cardiac caths, stent placements and valve replacements, and patients awaiting open heart surgeries. These are patients who require close cardiac monitoring and immediate cardiac intervention. In our unit, safe staffing can truly mean the difference between stability and an emergency. Today marks our 38th day on strike for safe staffing and job protections.

We initiated this GoFundMe to support our coworkers who need help during this time. Many are on maintenance medications, are single parents, or are primary breadwinners with young children. We do not know when we will be able to return to work, but the bills and daily expenses continue to pile up. As the strike continues with no clear end in sight, some families are struggling.
