Hello everyone.

I am Nyla Lofton, a Master of Social Work graduate student at Alabama A&M University.

This July, I have been so greatly blessed to be able to travel to Zambia, Africa, as part of my field experience through the MSW program.

During my time in Zambia, Africa, I will work with various agencies, including the school system, the National Assembly, which is the country's legislature, and an organization called Busa: a community-driven nongovernmental organization that integrates sports into children's development. I will also have the privilege of working directly with members of the local community. This trip will last a total of three weeks, with a layover in London along the way.

This trip will be incredibly valuable for my future Social Work career, as it will give me the opportunity to work with both children and adults from diverse cultural backgrounds. It will also equip me with essential skills across all levels of social work, including: macro, micro, and mezzo, since we will gain hands-on experience in each area. Most importantly, it will allow me to gain more knowledge, expand my awareness, and give me a greater sense of gratitude as I interact with individuals whose lives and experiences differ greatly from my own. I believe this opportunity will be life-changing, and will help me grow not only as a future Social Worker, but also as a more well-rounded individual.
