Help Me Realize My Dream of Artistic Growth in Chile!

Hello to those reading! I’m Nyatché Martha, a Senior BFA Theatre Major at Emerson College. From my elementary years leading in my youth art school's programming of Annie, to my current studies in Boston, my passion for all things performance has grown deeper each year. As a young, queer Black woman with Haitian-American and Dutch-Caribbean roots, I’ve dedicated my life to the arts, finding joy in connecting with communities through play. Now, I’ve been given an incredible opportunity to travel to Santiago, Chile, to study the Business of Acting, Artistic Direction and Production in a study abroad trip centered around a performance festival. This immersive program would allow me to learn alongside my talented peer, exploring how Chilean artists use performance as a tool for resistance and resilience—a theme that mirrors my own family’s history and the spirit of the Caribbean communities I hold dear.

Throughout my college journey, studying abroad has always been a dream, but high program costs and limited scholarships have made it seem impossible. This program in Chile is my last chance to experience a transformative cultural exchange before I graduate. It offers me the opportunity to engage directly with local artists, production leaders, and historic communities, gaining hands-on experience and vital skills that will shape my future career as an actress and theatre artist. I’m particularly excited to learn about Chile’s rich art history, which I believe will deepen my own practice as a storyteller and advocate for cultural memory.

While I’ve worked hard to secure grants and scholarships, my family and I have already taken on significant student loans to fund my education. I’m reaching out to raise $4,500 to cover expenses for this program that go beyond tuition expenses.. This funding is crucial for me to fully take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and bring back valuable experiences to share with my community. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings me closer to achieving my goals and helps pave the way for my future as a leader in the arts. Your support means everything to me, and I’m truly grateful for any help you can provide in making this dream a reality. Thank you so much for being a part of this journey!
