Hello there friends, family, and kind strangers on the net!
My name is Nyala Maharaj and my fiancé's name is Malik Hossain. On October 7th, 2025, we were in a severe head-on collision on SR 436 Semoran Blvd, in Orlando, FL. It was a 4 car accident, where both our car and the driver-at-fault’s car were completely totaled. Because of our expenses, we are making a go fund me to support our long road to recovery. Fortunately, we both have health insurance, however, it still does not fully cover our extensive care or losses (rehab, at-home nurses, at-home therapists, rent, legal fees, medication, lost wallet, lost phones, disability accommodations and equipment for home, etc.) I know 2025 has been a rough year for so many, but if you are able to pitch in at all, we would be eternally grateful.
When the accident occurred, Malik lost consciousness next to me while his car door was jammed shut from the damage, and I made an adrenaline-and-terror-fueled decision to drag myself out of the car, unknowingly with horribly ruptured intestines and several broken bones, including a severely broken foot, so that the first responders could keep him alive while others cut open the car to save him. We were both rushed to the hospital, where the amazing trauma team saved our lives after many grueling surgeries. We both required several different specialists for our injuries. We are still currently receiving at home care and therapy while we recover. Malik sustained intestinal/abdominal injuries as well, a severely broken arm, and kidney issues with many complications.
We both lost our phones in the accident, and it took days for Malik and I to be able to contact each other again. It wasn’t until October 19th, that I was finally able to sit up in a wheelchair and my doctor gave me clearance to visit Malik on another floor. There is a photo attached of us from that day.
We were finally discharged to home in mid November. We are both recovering well, but it will take several months to a year for us to make a 'full' recovery. Our lives will be forever changed because of one reckless driver, but I am forever thankful that we still have each other. And it is the endless love we’ve received from our family and friends has helped us heal to where we are now, and for that, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU.
Once again, any penny helps and we are so grateful for any/all support we receive. Thank you so much for your time to read through our journey. If you have any further questions for us, don’t hesitate to ask! And if you are still reading, we're wishing you a Happy Holiday and a Happy New Year!
With Love,
Nyala Maharaj and Malik Hossain
