Support a 25-Year Haitian Public Health Nurse as She Seeks Urgent Neurosurgery

At MERU, we are proud to stand beside our colleague and friend, Conceptia Paul, a Haitian nurse who has dedicated the past 25 years to serving her community in the field of public health and HIV care through her work with GHESKIO and the Caris Foundation.

Today, she needs our help.

Two years ago, Conceptia was diagnosed with a brain tumor (meningioma). The tumor is in a difficult location, and surgery is urgently required. Unfortunately, this procedure cannot be performed in Haiti due to a lack of neurosurgical infrastructure and specialized equipment.

Conceptia writes:

“My name is Conceptia Paul, and I have been a public health nurse for 25 years. It is with a heavy heart that I announce that I must undergo surgery for a brain tumor I contracted two years ago.

I am completely dependent on painkillers and injectable anti-inflammatory drugs to perform even the simplest daily tasks despite their deleterious effects on my kidneys and heart. This is an extremely challenging time for me and my family.

Unfortunately, in Haiti, we do not have the surgical equipment necessary for this type of procedure. I must seek care in the Dominican Republic, where I can get the surgery and follow-up care I need.

Your donation will help me fund the surgery, travel, and accommodation. Your support will save my life, ease my suffering, and allow me to continue to serve the people of Haiti.
