Support Nui rebuild her Maui farm in Kula
Donation protected
Nui is a 71 yr old woman, Thai immigrant who has been farming in Maui for over 30 years. She is one of the few local farmers selling veggies directly from her farm in Kula. She moved to Maui 35 years ago as a Thai immigrant and built her life around the land.
Unfortunately, the Maui fires that started in the Kula mountains consumed Nui's house, farm, equipment and the residences where she housed 8 of her work trade employees. They are all now sleeping in their trucks, cars and vans on what remains of the farm.
She shared her frustration that she called 911 and no one came to help her put out the fire. She recounted how she took up a water hose herself and tried to stop the fires.
She is in her 70s, thin, wrinkled and tan from the sun. She feels hopeless and is trying to remain strong for her son, her animals that survived (rescued goats, ducks, chickens, dogs and cats) and her employees. I can see that even trying to be strong hurts her and she tries to hide the tears.
Will the money being donated to charities help her pay for a new place to live and to rebuild her farm? No. This is the grim reality for the thousands impacted by the Maui fires.
This GoFundMe is directly setup to Nui's phone, email and account and is entirely in her control. There is another gofundme setup but she does not have control of it, so please support this one.
