Unfortunately, two days before notification of city grant award funding for Nudos y Raices, the Dallas Morning News reported that City of Dallas' City Manager officially halted all ongoing and projected programming designed to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in order to comply with federal directives.

However, we stay resilient! We are bringing this experience to life with the support of Arts Mission Oak Cliff and our community, because this piece is for everyone.

ABOUT ME:

Hola! My name is Gabriel Scampini, director and Artist-in-Residence at Arts Mission Oak Cliff in Dallas, TX. Being selected for an Arts Residency has always been a dream of mine, and I am now creating Nudos y Raíces (Knots and Roots), a movement-theatre piece that explores migration, memory and belonging. To bring this project to life, I need your support: Help me raise funds to cover artist fees, costumes, set design and production costs!

I am an artist who has a passion for movement and has worked in several productions in my home country and Dallas, TX. I have also competed as a dancer with different dance groups and hosted open movement laboratories since 2023. Most recently, I directed my piece "LATIDO" for SEEDS, by Agora Artists; and I had my theatrical directing debut with a rendition of "Como Agua para Chocolate" in February 2025 for the Nuevo Mundo Festival by Teatro Dallas. ABOUT THE PIECE:

Nudos y Raices was born from a question I carry with me as an immigrant: Where is home? What ties me to my roots, and what threads connect me to others? Along with the exploration of the migrant experience and the depth of cross-cultural relationships.

This work features three performers and combines theatre dialogue with movement inspired by dance and embodied memory. Using poetic imagery, we aim to create a space for reflection on migration, identity, and the stories that weave us together.

This project is also a celebration of community: We want audiences to see themselves reflected in the questions and emotions we bring to the stage. We are creating a bilingual piece so we can make this experience accessible to a broader audience.

My main mission as an artist is to create spaces where we honor vulnerability and transformation is possible. I believe art is a channel for healing, for justice and for community.
