Help Save Nova

Hi, my name is Kayla. I am 16 years old and am the proud owner of 2 cats and a dog. I’m reaching out with a heavy heart. Yesterday my sweet baby boy, Nova, was playing outside as usual with the kids around the neighborhood, when he got hit by an Uber driver who was completely careless and reckless. And because of that, nova is now facing a long and difficult road to recovery. He is my 2-year-old long-haired tuxedo cat who is just a young, loving, and playful soul who brings so much joy into everybody’s lives. Right now, he can’t standup or move his back leg and has a broken Pelvis. He got an x-ray and may possibly need surgery or to have his left hind leg amputated, but the vet bills are just so high and overwhelming. As much as I hate to ask, I want to give him every chance to heal and live the full, happy life he deserves. The estimated costs for his treatment, including the x-ray, medication, surgery, and follow-up care, are more than I can handle alone. If you’ve ever had a pet you love like family, you know how heartbreaking this situation is. He didn’t deserve this and I truly don’t know what I would do without him. A little more about Nova: We rescued him when he was just a few days old. He was left on the side of the road along with his siblings. When we found out that our family friend had taken all these kittens home and planned to foster them, we wanted to help. From the moment we met all the babies we fell in love with Nova and knew instantly that he was the one we were going to take home. He was the runt of the littler and only one who had different markings and that’s when we knew he was special. I chose to give him the name “Nova,” which means "new star," because I felt like he was given another chance at life and I knew we were going to do everything we could to make sure he lived it to its fullest. At first, it was hard having to wake up every hour to take care of him and make sure he was okay. He had a lot of problems growing up; he wasn't your typical kitten. He was so tiny that we had to be very careful with everything we did to help him. We would make his milk, feed him his formula with a syringe, and then have to help him use the bathroom. It seemed like a simple job, but it really wasn't. At times, we were worried that he wasn't going to make it. When he turned about a month old, we noticed that he had Epilepsy. Growing up and even until recently, he has always had bad seizures. We have been through so much with Nova, and I really don't know what I would do without him. He is the most gentle and loving cat I have ever met. He is always wanting to play outside with the kids around the neighborhood because he loves people and being outdoors. Everyone around the block knows Nova; he is like the neighborhood cat, and when they found out about the accident, they were all just as devastated as we were when we realized how bad it really was. Nova is innocent and didn’t deserve this. He went from being this happy and energetic cat who loved with his whole heart, to being paralyzed and terrified. It was all because of a reckless Uber driver who was speeding in the same neighborhood where children are always running around and playing. It is truly devastating how someone could do something like that and just keep driving away without even a care in the world. This broke the hearts of so many people, not just my family.
