Support Nova Lee's Fight for Health

My 2 year old niece, Nova Lee, has been in and out of the hospital for 2 weeks. Please read her story and consider giving to help with expenses. My sister Ally works full time at Lake Area in surgery and is a single income household. She does not receive help from Novas dad with anything. She has been out of work for 2 weeks and will be for at least another 2-3 weeks depending on how Novas journey goes. She does not get benefits so there is no income while her baby is going through this. Here is Novas story…..

June 10- started vomiting that Monday evening. Assumed it was the stomach bug.

June 12- was still vomiting, hadn’t eaten in 2 days and started running fever. She was brought to the ER at Lake Area and misdiagnosed with the stomach flu and sent home with nausea meds.

June 14- brought back to Lake Area ER because she was still vomiting, lethargic, still hadn’t eaten and was running a 103 fever. They misdiagnosed her again with a double ear infection and sore throat and sent her home with amoxicillin.

June 17- she is still running fever and vomiting so she was taken to Dr.Moss at the Children's Clinic. Was told she did not have an ear infection and they may as well just given her water in the ER. The FINALLY ran tests and was told she has a severe UTI, kidney infection and that she was septic from it not being caught sooner. Her WBC count was 24000 and Dr.Moss gave her a strong 24hr antibiotic shot and sent her on her way. Told her to come back the next morning for blood work and refused to admit her to the hospital.
That night her fever was 103, she was taken back to the ER at Memorial. They were told everything that she’s been told. They decided to run a nose swab, misdiagnose her with rhinovirus and sent her home. Never checked her uti, kidneys, no blood work…NOTHING!

June 18- take her back to Dr.Moss for follow up labs. Her WBC was now 30,000. She asked again to be admitted and he argued with her until he finally gave in. She has this all on video.

June 18- her first day in Memorial pediatrics. They did ultrasounds on her kidneys and belly and said she was just full of gas. Diagnosed her again with rhinovirus, said she wasn’t septic but she did have E Coli, UTI and severe kidney infection.

June 19- day 3 of the same antibiotic they gave her at the children’s clinic. It’s still not working. She’s still running fever. They had no interest in doing any scans at this point and wanted to give her 4 days on the antibiotic that wasn’t working before they did anything else. This is when they found a heart murmur she developed from being sick for so long without treatment.

June 20- Ally finally pushed for a CT scan against the doctors wishes and they found a cyst on her appendix that had ruptured a small hole. Her appendix has been leaking causing the fever/infection in her body. Her intestines, colon and appendix are severely inflamed and infected. What they told her was “just gas” was in fact not gas! Immediately the lake Charles surgeon decided he didn’t feel comfortable operating on her so they FINALLY transferred her to New Orleans.

June 21- June 21- they arrived in New Orleans around midnight. Nova is finally resting and getting ready to have her first procedure today. They will go in and put a drain tube to drain out the bacteria and infection. She will have this tube for about a week and then they will go back in and remove her appendix in about 6 weeks.

Ally is her only advocate and present parent. She will be out of work for at least a month because no one would listen to her and try to help her baby! Lake Charles healthcare(and her own coworkers) failed Nova for 2 weeks before they looked for the actual problem. Any little bit helps. They still have a long way to go! Prayers for Nova are greatly appreciated
