I am setting up this fundraiser for the family of my dear friend Nour, one of the kindest and most compassionate people one will ever have the privilege of knowing. At 19 years old, she has experienced more trauma and loss than most people experience in a life-time. Every day we speak, she never fails to ask us how we are doing, despite living through the waking nightmare of being at risk of losing her family. Nour and her parents have been able to evacuate to safety, and are now forcibly separated from their loved ones who are still under constant bombing and massacres, escalating each day and spearing no civilians. Nour’s family loves life, they teach life, they deserve life.
Of those who remain in Gaza is Musallam, a married father to a one year old, Ameer. Mussalam is an accountant, and used to work at his father’s office - the family’s only source of income. This office was completely destroyed in the first weeks of the ongoing attacks, and Mussalam’s car was stolen as well, leaving them with no money or way to travel from one place to another. Ameer was born 2 months before October 7th, and has spent the rest of his first year lacking basic necessities, repeatedly displaced to shelters where there is no safety to be found any longer since their home was destroyed by heavy bombing. Musallam is a diabetic patient, and the lack of access to adequate nutrition has caused his health to steeply decline. Can you imagine being a father to a toddler, allocating all the healthy food you can obtain to keeping your son alive, at the cost of your own survival?
Mussalam younger brother Muhammed and his wife are also in need of evacuation. They got married last year, and have spent the majority of their first year as newly weds escaping constant attacks. Muhammed’s car was also stolen last month as they sheltered in Rafah.
The family have lost everything, and don’t even have access to stable internet to stay in touch with their loved ones who have evacuated. Their urgent need at this time is to reunite with the rest of their family, and secure a path to safety for everyone. The never-ending terror of losing each other consumes them, as they turn on their phones each morning praying not to find out about another massacre in designated “safe zones”. The Huda family have lost so much already, don’t let them lose each other.
In order to fund evacuation to Egypt for every family member, the minimum cost in USD amounts to $30,000 (that is if the travel prices do not continue to rise in the upcoming weeks). The family will also need to fund urgently needed medication, as well as secure housing and necessities like food/water without a source of income once they are in Egypt, and keep in mind finding employment will not be easy. Until the border re-opens, the family’s need to fund uncontaminated food and water for everyone still rely constant financial support, hence the rest of the goal will serve to ensure they are able to afford what they need for survival.
Nour’s family face death every single day. There is no way to convey the level of urgency and scale of destruction - nowhere in Gaza is safe any longer. The occupation forces block the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and due to the high demand for necessities like clean water, food, and supplies for the toddlers, prices have sky-rocketed, making obtaining these without a source of income unmanageable. This is currently the only way we can get direct support to this family. Your donations will help this wonderful family survive and reunite in safety and in health, to meet their basic needs, and to rebuild their lives together as every person deserves the right to have.
This is what Mussalam looked like before the war.
This is medical result for diabetes. He is supposed to be eating specific types of food, but is unable to due to the war.
