It began with a simple iPhone notification — one that claimed their iCloud account had been compromised. What followed felt real, urgent, and terrifying.

They received a phone call from someone posing as Apple, warning them of the breach and telling them to expect a call from the Fraud Department at One Local/Norwood Cooperative Bank. That call came. Everything sounded official. Everything sounded safe.

They were told to download an app to “protect” their accounts.

But none of it was real.

Every call, every notification, every reassurance was part of a carefully executed scam. The callers spoofed phone numbers and identities, making it nearly impossible for them to know they were being deceived.

Then came the most heartbreaking manipulation — they were told their son could no longer access his accounts. In fear and desperation to protect their family, they followed instructions, believing they were doing the right thing.

By the time the truth became clear, the damage was already done.

This loving couple — lifelong residents of our community, parents and grandparents — lost thousands and thousands of dollars in a matter of moments. They are now left trying to navigate the emotional trauma, financial devastation, and the shame that so often accompanies elder fraud.

This request came from a family member, knowing that the couple is too proud and very ashamed. It was requested to stay anonymous as they would be embarrassed if it was known, what happened.

They need our help.
