Hello, everyone.
After a bout of homelessness, I have finally managed to find a place to call home (with a roommate and generous help of donors and the community on LinkedIn/FB!). I moved in on December 15th. Prior to that, I was bouncing around. The funds raised to find housing were put entirely toward securing the apartment (both the large deposit and the guarantor insurance).
Because I moved in the middle of the month and just after a surgery repair, I was unable to drive Lyft as much as I needed to (and I couldn't drive Lyft in Kentucky because it doesn't extend beyond state lines).
I have found an additional part-time job in addition to Lyft. However, they will not pay for another 2-3 weeks as they process paperwork. They also require the first check to be paper-based, which will take time to get to me.
Here's where I need a little more help so January starts off strong:
- $500: Rental assistance--because myself (with your help!) and my roommate paid a hefty amount for December, our rent is pro-rated for January. This is great, obviously, but with the delay in being paid for my second job and having to put everything from Lyft into securing the apartment.
- $200: Food assistance--I tried going to a local food pantry, but they were closed. This money would be spent on basic food necessities and would last a considerable amount of time (I budget everything and avoid impulse buying).
- $200: Bills--This will cover phone/internet/electricity so I can continue looking for a more stable, full-time position with guaranteed hours.
- $100: Shoes--I have a pair of boots and sandals. I don't have tennis shoes, and because I was run over by a forklift when I was 18, I usually buy more expensive shoes to fit the damage and/or buy 2 of the same shoe when I find a pair that are comfortable for me to walk in.
- *BONUS IF ENOUGH IS RAISED--CONTINUED EDUCATION (most programs cost 2-3k)--While I have worked in the L&D/ID field for quite some time, I have been met with boundaries in achieving a position. Most of my work is riddled with NDAs (AI, big tech, publishing companies, etc.), so I cannot share my materials with potential employers. Any extra funds will go into an education/certification program so I can develop a portfolio that can be viewed/engaged with without the fear of NDA retaliation. I am putting money back in small amounts to build this fund. If you know of scholarships or programs that support those in hardship, please let me know. If you are a founder and you've landed on this page, please reach out and, perhaps, we can come up with a payment plan.
SEEKING FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT:
If you're in the Chicago or Chicagoland area for hybrid positions and you have connections to recruiters/hiring managers (or remote positions), please let me know through the comment section, and I will reach out.
I am looking for roles in:
- Instructional Design
- Learning & Development
- Customer/Client Success
- Content/Curriculum Management
- Project Management
- Facilitation/Coaching
Every single one of you are amazing--thank you for your previous help on my medical support and housing crisis and for your support now.
Best,
Noroyle (Nor-o-lee)
