Hello, my name is Norma and I truly appreciate you taking your time to read my story. Last year on July 2nd, 2024, I was diagnosed with stage three triple-negative breast cancer. Soon after my diagnosis, I began chemotherapy to shrink my cancer. A few months into my chemotherapy, I had some complications and had to have an emergency mastectomy. The surgery went well, and I began radiation treatments along with immunotherapy at the start of this year. After my 14th session of immunotherapy, however, I started to have a bad reaction to the treatment and developed painful mouth ulcers as a result. Given my bad reaction, the immunotherapy had to stop. As time went on, the mouth ulcers grew, and eating started to become a challenge. At the same time, new lesions were starting to pop up in my body, and I started to feel sickly again. I spent most of my time in June of this year in the ER trying to figure out what was going on with my body. It was only until July when they told me the cancer had spread to the rest of my body. As of right now, the cancer has spread to some vital organs like my liver and lungs, which has made it very difficult for me and my family. Currently, I have been admitted to the hospital and placed on a feeding tube for my nutrition. I will be starting chemo early next week in hopes of shrinking or slowing down the cancer that has spread.

Hola, mi nombre es Norma y realmente aprecio que se tome el tiempo para leer mi historia. El 2 de julio del 2024 fui diagnosticada con cáncer de mama triple negativo en etapa tres. Poco después de mi diagnóstico, comencé quimioterapia para reducir el tamaño del cáncer. A los pocos meses de iniciar la quimioterapia, tuve algunas complicaciones y me tuvieron que realizar una mastectomía de emergencia. La cirugía salió bien y a principios de este año comencé tratamientos de radiación junto con inmunoterapia. Sin embargo, después de mi 14ª sesión de inmunoterapia, comencé a tener una mala reacción al tratamiento y desarrollé dolorosas úlceras en la boca como resultado. Debido a esta mala reacción, la inmunoterapia tuvo que suspenderse.

Con el tiempo, las úlceras en la boca empeoraron y comer se convirtió en un reto. Al mismo tiempo, nuevas lesiones comenzaron a aparecer en mi cuerpo y empecé a sentirme débil nuevamente. Pasé la mayor parte de junio de este año en la sala de emergencias tratando de averiguar qué estaba pasando con mi cuerpo. No fue sino hasta julio que me dijeron que el cáncer se había extendido al resto de mi cuerpo. Actualmente, el cáncer se ha propagado a órganos vitales como el hígado y los pulmones, lo que ha sido muy difícil para mí y para mi familia. En este momento me encuentro hospitalizada y me han colocado una sonda de alimentación para recibir nutrición. La próxima semana comenzaré quimioterapia con la esperanza de reducir o ralentizar el cáncer que se ha propagado.
