As many are aware, on Saturday June 6th, a sudden and violent storm swept through an annual family & friends camping trip held along the Delaware River, resulting in an unimaginable tragedy for our town. While our hearts are heavy and grieving the profound loss our community experienced that weekend, our brother, Nolan Luria, is facing a long road to recovery. Nolan was struck by a falling tree during the storm, fracturing his right femur in two places, shattering his right heel, and breaking his left ankle.
He was rushed to an ICU in New York—nearly two hours away from home—where he has already undergone two major surgeries on his femur, with more on the horizon. Because his heel is so severely shattered, doctors cannot operate yet; it must begin to heal on its own before a future reconstructive surgery can be scheduled. Nolan's recovery so far has been incredibly rocky. He is currently fighting off infections, managing low oxygen levels, and struggling with a loss of appetite, which has slowed his progress and kept him from being transferred to a rehabilitation facility closer to home.
We feel grateful beyond words that Nolan survived and will eventually be okay, but his life has been completely upended. With both legs severely broken, he cannot bear any weight on his lower body for many months. He will be entirely unable to work, walk, or care for himself. While we are still navigating what insurance will cover, we know he will be out of work for at least six months, and state disability benefits take a notorious amount of time to process.
Managing his care between his home in New Jersey and his doctors in New York is going to be an immense hurdle. We are starting this fund as a "recovery bridge" so Nolan and our parents can focus entirely on his healing.
Every dollar raised will go directly toward Nolan’s immediate care and long-term recovery:
- Future Rehabilitation & Specialized Transport: Funding his transition back to New Jersey. Once he is stable enough to be discharged from the New York hospital, he will be relocated to an in-patient rehab facility closer to home for an unknown period. Donations will help cover specialized medical transport between facilities, and eventually, transport to his long-term outpatient physical therapy appointments.
- Home Accessibility & In-Home Care: Preparing my parents' house for his eventual return. Because he will be completely unable to bear weight on his legs for months, we will need to fund essential home accessibility modifications (like ramps and equipment) and secure professional in-home care assistance to support him and our parents during his recovery.
- Out-of-Pocket Medical Gaps: Assisting with insurance deductibles, specialized co-pays, medications, and medical equipment not covered by health insurance.
- Financial Security: Helping to cover essential monthly expenses so he can stay financially secure while he has zero income and waits for state disability to process.
Anyone who knows Nolan knows he never asks for help. He is a gentle soul who is happiest surrounded by his family, friends, and his beloved dogs. Maybe grab him a Budweiser if you really want to spoil him.
Any amount you can give, no matter how small, is an incredible gift to our family. If you aren't able to donate, simply sharing this page or leaving a kind message for Nolan to read in his hospital bed would mean the world to him.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continuous love and support.
With immense gratitude,
