Support Noelani’s Cancer Recovery

We are writing as Noelani’s (“Nani”) parents, asking for help and support as our daughter faces a recurrence of Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Noelani is 23 years old and has been living independently for several years. She has been working in elderly care as a CNA, a role that reflects her compassion, strength, and dedication to others. She is thoughtful, resilient, and determined. While life is asking her to walk a very difficult road right now, we are grateful that she does not have to walk it alone.

After additional testing and biopsies, we met with her oncologist and received the difficult confirmation that Noelani’s Hodgkin’s lymphoma has returned. We were also referred to a specialist team at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, where we were given both hard news and genuine hope. While Nani’s treatment plan will be physically demanding, her medical team has shared that it also carries a high likelihood of success, for which we are deeply thankful. Her treatment will take place in multiple phases, each with its own challenges. Together, these phases will require a prolonged period of care and recovery, during which Noelani will be unable to work.

The first two months of treatment will take place locally, but even during this phase, Noelani will be unable to work due to the intensity and side effects. The following two months will require her to relocate to Seattle for care at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, where she must remain within 30 minutes of the hospital. This means temporary housing near Fred Hutch during active treatment. The final 6–8 weeks will be a recovery period, during which she is also expected to remain out of work while her body heals. In total, Noelani is facing approximately six months without income, along with two months of required housing near Fred Hutch.

This season brings both medical and practical burdens. While we are grateful for excellent medical care, the financial strain of lost income and temporary relocation is significant. Funds raised will help cover temporary housing near Fred Hutch during Seattle-based treatment, living expenses during the full six months Noelani is unable to work, transportation, parking, and food related to treatment, and unavoidable day-to-day expenses during recovery. Our hope is to remove as much financial pressure as possible so Noelani can focus fully on treatment and healing — and so she doesn’t have to carry this weight alone at such a young age. Any contribution will make a meaningful difference in her journey.
