Anyone that has met Noel likely knows him as a kind-hearted person, the light jovial scuba guy, the skydiver, the cycle fanatic and lifelong aviator. Tragically, in June, Noel was riding his bicycle when he collided with another cyclist, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down.
It was only two years ago, that he won the battle against stage-4 throat cancer and esophageal reconstruction. His perseverance and positive outlook is inspiring. He is now receiving intensive spinal cord rehabilitation at the Craig Hospital in Denver, Colorado, this “gofundme” page will help support his financial needs during recovery.
As Noel navigates his new lifestyle he will need 24-hour homecare as well as continued intensive physical therapy. Additionally, modifications will need to be done at his home to ensure his safety. He will require assistive technology and various medical equipment to facilitate his day-to-day life as a quadriplegic. Lastly, he needs a specialized van to transport him and his wheelchair to his medical appointments.
On top of all this, Noel is at risk of losing his job of 31 years due to COVID-19 layoffs. This would mean that he would also lose his medical insurance at a time when he needs it the most. According to the Christopher and Dana Reeves Foundation (www.christoperreeve.org) the estimated cost for the first year alone is $1,064,716. The amount is too much for the family, and we cannot do it without your help.
Noel is a husband, father, brother, grand-father of five and a friend to many; he is the kind of person everyone wants to be around. We hope to support Noel through the costly recovery process so that one day he may again play his guitar, walk along the beach, and hug his loved ones.
