Thank you for taking time to check out my fundraiser for my dear nephew, Noah. Below is his story, written by his mother, Caterina Silva.
The Story of Noah:
Noah (“Little Nug”) came into the world on Cinco de Mayo at 10:23am, weighing 5lbs and 4oz. Being our first child, we were shocked and so excited that he finally arrived. We spent the first few days in the hospital and were discharged Wednesday afternoon. Noah was able to spend a few days at home, with no concerns besides the pediatrician informing us that his heart rate was a bit high and we would need to see a cardiologist in the future. We had a great Mother’s Day with both grandma’s and everything seemed great.
Fast forward to the very next day, Noah was a bit sleepier than usual. We went to give him his 5pm feed, but he wasn’t taking a drop. Along with that, he started inconsolably crying. We started getting worried and called the pediatrician. While on the phone, formula began to come out of his nose and we rushed Noah to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL. By the time we got there, he was pale white, his breathing was labored, and he was less responsive. The emergency room team of NICU doctors, cardiologists, nurses, and respiratory therapists jumped into action and was able to get him stable. The doctors told us that Noah was being transferred to (specifically) NICU A, where the “sickest babies go”. From there, Noah would spend two days in NICU A to then be transferred to the cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) to undergo his heart surgery to repair his congenital heart defect, Coarctation of the Aorta.
Thank God, the surgery was successful and Noah has been recovering from his major surgery for the past week. Noah continued to have a few complications resulting in respiratory failure, but he continues to show his resilience and strength. Noah still has a long road ahead to resolve a few more heart-related issues, but he has a good foundation for his full recovery. Continued prayers are needed and we thank God, our friends and our family every day for staying by our side.
*Your donations will go directly to Noah’s parents to help them cover his medical expenses from his procedure and hospital stay.
