Help Support Deb Garoui – A True Champion for Students
Deb Garoui has been recognized nationally for her selfless work—featured on CBS Mornings and honored by Canva as an “Unsung Hero.” But behind the spotlight is a story of relentless strength, compassion, and sacrifice.
In 2012, Deb was asked to take over the debate program at Keller High School in Keller, Texas. She was hesitant—she was already carrying more than most. A single mother of two, Deb was raising her daughter Noor while caring for her son Noah, who has special needs and a limited life expectancy. She had just come through a grueling fight with triple-negative breast cancer. And yet, she said yes.
That decision changed countless lives.
Deb went on to build a successful team at Keller and continued to coach at several other schools across Texas. She has spent her career in rural and Title I schools, intentionally creating inclusive teams where students from all backgrounds feel seen, supported, and empowered.
For over a decade, Deb has poured everything she has—time, energy, and her own limited resources—into giving her students opportunities they might never otherwise have. She’s covered entry fees, bought meals, and paid for travel when students couldn’t afford it themselves. Her mission has always been to help young people find their voice and realize their potential.
Now, it’s our turn to give back.
Whether you’ve witnessed Deb’s impact firsthand or believe in the power of educators to change lives, your support can help ease her burdens and allow her to continue the work she’s devoted her life to—uplifting others, even in the face of unimaginable challenges.
Let’s stand by someone who’s spent her life standing up for others. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference.
Noah's Care Journey
Sweet Noah is a 17 year old special needs child who is diagnosed with Down Syndrome, autism, Lennox Gastaut Syndrome, and mitochondrial disease. He has a limited life expectancy, and lives in the care of his mother, Deb, and sister, Noor. Since November 26th, he has been in the Covenant Children's Hospital (Lubbock, TX), in the pediatric intensive care unit battling pneumonia.
Noah and his family have spent Thanksgiving, Noah's birthday (Dec 10th), Christmas, and New Year’s in the PICU as he battled his way through multiple intubations, surgery, and mechanical ventilation. However, after 36 days and a major life-changing surgery, Noah is still on a ventilator struggling with oxygen levels, and trying to get well enough to go home. It has been a slow process as his lungs continue to improve and collapse in a critical care rollercoaster.
Noah's mom, a teacher, remains bedside with him, and now faces major medical bills, and financial strain. Expecting to return to work in January, Deb has learned that Noah needs to be moved to a larger hospital for higher levels of care five hours away.
Noah is facing at least another month of hospitalization and rehab away from home, then will need medical supplies and machinery at home. In addition to the expenses associated with Noah's care in the hospital, there will be further costs related to medical supplies and equipment needed for his recovery once he is discharged. This is a daunting challenge for a family already facing so much uncertainty.
We kindly ask for your support during this difficult time. If you are able to contribute, any amount would make a significant difference in helping Noah and his family cover medical expenses and support his ongoing care. Your generosity will not only provide some financial relief but also serve as a reminder that they are not alone in this journey. If you are unable to contribute financially, please share Noah’s story to help advocate for children like Noah and their families.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Noah's journey. Your support, in any form, is deeply appreciated and can make a world of difference for Noah and his family.
