Bring Hope to Noah Gushard's Healing Journey

Donation protected
I'm starting this GoFundMe for my son, Noah Gushard. Three weeks ago, on a dark stretch of highway, in a sudden moment, my son Noah’s car spun and slammed into a guardrail. I got the call at 5:45 a.m.—I was told that my son was in critical condition and would be airlifted by helicopter and transferred to the UNM emergency trauma center. My whole world was darkened by the thought of Noah's fate. Hours later, I visited the UNM trauma center with Michael (dad) where Noah lay broken: shattered femur legs, crushed ribs, a shattered left hip, fractured pelvis, and a broken wrist. The surgeon gave me and Michael a glimpse of hope when he said, “He’s young and strong, but it will be a difficult road ahead to recovery.”

Today, despite the immense pain and suffering Noah's been going through, his smile still lights up the room when I lean close to give him a hug. But the boy who used to dance with his mom in the kitchen while cracking jokes has a hard time wiggling his feet and toes. Noah has already gone through six intense surgeries, and the surgeon has reported some nerve damage in his left leg. His crushed hip is the worst of his injuries, and he may need a hip replacement at some point a little later. Physical therapy and rehab start next week—it will be hours of pain just to sit up, months to stand, maybe years to walk without any assistance.

I am asking for friends, family, and others to come together in showing your support for my family, for Noah at a time much needed. As many of you already know, Noah has been working as a 911 dispatcher to Española of Rio Arriba County for the last two years, providing vital services in Public Safety, and it is unknown how long he will need to recover from these injuries before going back to work. My family needs much support in making adaptations for Noah's recovery, and I will need to take some time off work to assist him at home till he can be independent and a little more mobile. It is unknown if Noah will be able to secure state disability insurance as it is a tedious, long process that can take anywhere from six months or more for benefits to kick in. We will also need to make structural changes and some renovations for wheelchair access, and we are unsure of all the out-of-pocket costs that will slowly start to kick in. There's a lot to think about and a lot of unknown factors impacting Noah.

We are so grateful for all the prayers and continued love and support we’ve been receiving, and every dollar in donations we receive will be of help in supporting Noah's recovery. “If love could carry him, he’d already be home.” Let’s be the love that carries this boy home—one donation, one message, and one miracle at a time. Every cent of your care and contribution goes toward accommodations to bring our son home after weeks of being in the trauma center and six more weeks in intense rehab. I’ll be posting updates of his recovery process. We want to thank all who are able to contribute in any way, even those who can't donate. You all have been so wonderful and supportive. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Thank you and God bless.
