My name is Nita and until 2 months ago I was a healthy 50 year old mom, wife, owner of a non profit and small business owner. After breaking up a dog fight unexpectedly at my animal sanctuary Dog Heaven, my back pain was extreme and I wasn’t able to walk. After a month of not being able to use my right leg from extreme pain I dived into additional tests. Preliminary tests prompted that I could have cancer that had spread to the bone but at this point it was still down on the list of expectations. On Saturday July 11th I was admitted into the hospital for hypercalcimia of 16 which is a life threatening amount where I was at risk for coma, kidney failure or heart failure. After additional testing in the hospital it was discovered that I have stage 4 breast cancer that has spread to the bone with multiple bone tumors all over my body. My back pain was coming from a tumor on my hip that caused me not to be able to walk. This has all been such a shock to myself and my family as I am used to being full of energy and joy. My whole life has changed in a weekend. I am currently confined to a wheel chair and undergoing radiation treatment for the large tumor in my hip and determining a long term treatment plan once I discover the type of breast cancer. Stage 4 breast cancer means it will be treatable not curable. I will have this for the rest of my life which means extra medical bills will be there for the rest of my life.
This is a large blow for us financially as I have limited health insurance coverage as a small business owner, and because I won’t be able to work as much with my health concerns.
I have multiple living beings that rely on me from hired contractors, to animals at the sanctuary , to people in my Underdogs program and my family. I am asking for any financial support anyone can offer to help offset costs of current and long term care and continue care for those I have committed to.
No amount is too small. Thank you sincerely ahead of time ❤️
