Support Ni's Family Through Her Recovery

Hi, my name is Ben Karis and I’m fundraising for my sister-in-law, Nirada (Ni), my brother, Tim, and their 4-year-old son, Gianni.

Ni was recently diagnosed with a facial nerve schwannoma (FNS), a rare type of tumor that starts in the nerve connecting the brain to the ear. Though the tumor is benign, its proximity to Ni’s brain is extremely problematic. Because of the large size of the tumor, major surgery is necessary to prevent it from impacting the brain stem. The surgery – though life-saving – will result in paralysis to the left side of Ni’s face, and she will also lose hearing in her left ear.

While we are grateful the tumor was caught, this will obviously be a big challenge for Ni and her family. During her recovery period, Ni will be unable to work. Subsequent surgeries to help restore movement and sensation to her face will also require time for recovery. We are hoping to raise funds to help Ni, Tim, and Gianni with childcare and daily expenses due to their loss of Ni’s income for the foreseeable future.
