Support Niomi's Cultural Exchange Journey
Donation protected
Hi, My name is Niomi Smith, I'm a Senior at Renaissance High School in Detroit Michigan. I have recently been given the opportunity to deeper immerse myself in Japanese culture through an educational program called the Toyota Sister City Program. It was founded in 1960, and officially became an exchange program in 1965. It aims to strengthen the relationship between the two cities by submerging students within the city, living with host families, partaking in a multitude of activities, and meeting with officials to discuss Japan's overall society and strengthen the relationship between the two cities.
Last year I hosted a Japanese student, and my family and I were able to give him a broaden and different perspective about not only America, but Detroit specifically. This program has given me a life long friendship. like no other.
However, the cost of participating is more than I can afford on my own. This is why I'm reaching out to my community for support. Your generous donations will help cover travel expenses, accommodation, and program fees, allowing me to seize this incredible learning opportunity and represent our city proudly.
Thank you to everyone who is actively supporting me on this journey. I hope to be apart of the difference that can be made when it comes to fostering global understanding through cultural exchange. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings me closer to achieving this ongoing dream of mine. The travel dates are July 15-29! I am deeply grateful for your support.
Sincerely,
Niomi S.
