Help Support Nina’s Breast Cancer Fight

Hello, friends, family, and kind strangers—

We’re reaching out to ask for your support on behalf of Nina Peterson— someone you may know as Athena’s mom, a coworker, friend, family member, fellow student or maybe you just happened upon this page.

In early March of 2025, Nina received the news that the biopsy she had after imaging exams showed several suspicious areas, was in fact breast cancer. Initially thinking the breast cancer was caught early, the plan was for immediate surgery. Unfortunately after the pathology was complete, we learned that the disease was much more serious and had already progressed to at least stage II. After several more exams it was found that the cancer had spread and she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. This is something a 33 year-old could never imagine.

The plan quickly changed to starting chemotherapy and immunotherapy as soon as possible to slow the spread. We are still waiting on additional imaging exams to see how many sessions will be necessary. If the chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments work as we hope they will, the next steps in the treatment plan are surgeries and radiation.

Each day is a new challenge as Nina remains focused on both fighting this disease and being a single parent to a 4 year-old. Her journey will be a long one, and we are ready to fight with her every step of the way. Many people have kindly reached out and offered their support to Nina through this fight. There are no words to describe how grateful we are for everyone’s generosity. Any contribution, no matter how small, would be incredibly appreciated as it would help cover living expenses, future care costs and ease the burden during treatment.
