American Humor - Narrative Short Film
Hi, I'm Nihar Kandarpa, and this year I'm directing my thesis film to graduate from Loyola Marymount University. Ever since high school, directing movies has been my passion, and I've spent the last 3 and a half years in LA learning through experience to better my craft.
I'm making this movie because of the subtle discrimination I have seen growing up as an Indian in America, and the different methods of humor I’ve had to employ in order to win the approval of those around me. I want to explore systemic racism within humor, as I think it’s one of the areas in which racist remarks and connotations are overlooked the most. I ask for your help in raising money for this project—it means a lot to me, and I hope it can shed light on the burdens of conformity, not just for Indians, but for all minorities in America.
