Hi!
My name is Sara, and I have a sweet, thirteen-year-old kitty named Nightwing. He is named after the DC Comics superhero because he's nocturnal and he smiles all the time. He takes his role as an emotional support animal very seriously, not just with humans, but with other cats! When I first brought him home, he barely meowed, and he had to be tempted to snuggle with treats, but he has grown to trust me and other humans enough to become quite the snuggly, chatterbox. He has taught me so much about healing, about trust, and about love. And right now, he needs your help.
Nightwing was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism back in May. He has steadily lost weight since then and is down to 8.7 lbs. The entry level treatment for this condition is a medication called methimazole. We tried it in three forms, and my poor kitty had bad reactions to each one. Pills and prescription food made him vomit, and the transdermal treatment made his ears itch to the point of bleeding. It was at this point that my vet determined that radiation therapy would be the best treatment option.
The good news: radio-iodine injections are usually a one-and-done, curative therapy. Most cats at his age who have had the treatment never have to take thyroid medication again.
The bad news: the injection + hospital stay (the injection will make him RADIOACTIVE for a short time) + associated screenings will cost around $2700 all together. I will break down the exact costs in an update tomorrow.
The various tests and treatments we have already tried have drained a lot of my emergency funds, to be honest. To help mitigate these costs, I am humbly asking for your help.
If Nightwing The Cat has touched your life in some way, if his photos brighten your day, please consider donating/spreading the word.
Thank you,
Sara Pittock
